See We Are Trapped Done By Tareq Shahwan
With every minute passes, there are thousands of children being born. With every child being raised, thousands of hopes being implanted and engrained in his/her psyche, and therefore expanding it with the imagination component that is built upon it. The parents think that they are doing the right thing; “a child must have enthusiasm and positive thinking” once a parent said to me, and they think that this will be the ultimate drive that would lead him/her into a secure life with a bullet-proof superego. The parents are not the only ones to blame for this but rather the media and the society. I personally think that one of the biggest parties that proliferates idealism and false hopes are TV channels and movies. They also propagate the idea of fate, positive randomness and perfect sexual relationships. If an alien that is expert in anthropology came to the earth and watched our media, he would become Bipolar. What will traumatize him is the huge rift between what we believe in and what we do. The media is pro an imaginary methodology through which you can fulfill your ego sensual needs- which is exactly what we believe in , however, when we go down to earth and start fulfilling our needs , then we do it differently.
I am not against the audacity of hope- as president Obama call it - nor am I a negative, depressed human being. The truth is I am against the dangerous psychological, societal implications of subjecting the fresh minds to ideas that would alienate them in their own world. The problem in raising a child does not lay merely in the parents, but rather in the modern ideology of human beings and how they recently start looking at life. It is true that we have a lot of school of thoughts that tried to explain the origin of the world and the way to happiness, however, they all share the same flaw, that is the mixture between imagination and reality; The only reality we know of is that we were born in the wilderness with animals, and there we belong. All these values and ideals that were formed when people decided to create societies emerged from only one source: a psychological turmoil that struck them because of their weakness and inability to conquer the world’s hardships. This psychological turmoil led to a psychological problem called self-denial. People oppressed their sensual needs in order to punish themselves for not being able to satisfy them, but the story does not end here, we took an extra mile. Human beings summed all these values that repressed them –especially in reproduction - and integrate them into a whole system that is based upon a fake concept called the “general will”. Everyone who follows the system is extremely misled in all aspects of life. With the development and the increasing of human numbers, some variations happened to the system based on the environment and the natural resources that surrounded the society; however, the variations did not deplete the psychological source but sustained it and sometimes amplify it –like oriental societies. Most importantly, those who architected the system wanted a tool through they can promote it to the people, therefore, they looked for something that posed a historical, inevitable contradiction to the harsh circumstances which humanity has been through and ruled their life from their creation, that is idealism.
